Happy New Year!

Happy Twenty 10 

How bout that? Another decade! I'm excited about a bright shining, joy & beauty filled year to come! I celebrated NYE in Orange County with wonderful friends & family, danced the night away & made some New Year's Resolutions of course. I break my goals up into categories; I wanted to share with you my beauty resolutions! In random order.... 

1. Take time for the little things and pay attention to details, like painting your toenails in a color that makes you smile; like vibrant red or dazzling coral :-) 

2. Have good hair days more often! My sister Maria at City Salon, HB does such an amazine job on my color, I vow to do it justice more often. With an occasional blow dry and hydrating treatments for my ends. Also to try NEW things with my hair. I usually do one of two things; up or down. I've fallen in love with Hair accessories and clips and bows and braids.... time to start sportin em!

3. To do something daily to get my heart rate up and to break a.... well, to glow. I love taking the stairs (unless I'm schlepping my kit with me) I love working out on the ball and I hope to take at least 10 mins a day to maintain my health.... and my body confidence! 

4. To play with makeup colors that I usually don't use on myself. I am like everyone else; I have my 4 go to eye shadow colors.... but this NYE I did a smokey black, shimmering dark gray and silver look for the countdown, and I loved it. It was different for me and just plain Fun! I have no excuse, I have over 100 eyeshadow colors to play with, and by golly, I'm gonna use em! 

5. Where ever I am, what ever I'm doing, when thoughts  of fear, intimidation, or self-esteem issues jump in my mind, I promise to take a time out to look up at the sky and realize where my help comes from, I promise to speak life and love to myself and to the people I love... I promise to take time to cultivate beauty from the inside out... and to let my light shine! And of course, to blog all about it!

HOT COCO

 Backstage at the vibrant ARISE show... I got to meet supermodel Coco Rocha. I got to 'talk story' with her about Canada (her home!), my visit to Vancouver last year, and of course the backstage model mayhem! It was nice to meet her after I've been admiring her work for some time now. Here are some quick snapshots of behind the scenes with Coco. 

Doll Eyes

Here is the makeup look I created for the Acid Dolls Runway Show.

And this... is how you achieve it. 

1. Natural-Colored Cream Eyeshadow as a base. (Water-proof Eye Paint by MAC in Untitled) all over eyelid from lashline to brow. From inner corner of the eye (almost touching the bridge of nose) to  to the outer most part of the eye, extending towards the temple. You can cover the cream with a matching powder eyeshadow to set, I used Brule by MAC, a matte ivory color. 

2. White Eyeliner around rim of the eye, upper and lower lashline. (I used Fascinating Kohl Pencil from MAC)  Bring liner to the bridge of the nose to form a point, and exaggerate an extended line out to the temple. Make lines thin and clean. At the end of the makeover, I applied Shu Uemura Cream Pearl Pigment over the top of the white eyeliner to really make it shiny and pop! You can use a powder pigment as well... just make it really intense! 

3.Work Metallic Brown Cream Eyeshadow around the white. I like to think of it as “hugging” the white eyeliner. I used my favorite go-to color, Rich Ground Fluidline by M.A.C. If you don’t have this in your kit... I highly recommend you make that happen! It’s brilliant and only $15 retail. Basically where the white ends, Rich Ground begins. Then continue to apply Rich Ground Fludiline all over the lid and blending it into the crease. Because it’s a cream, you get a clean line (when working around the white) and you get a great color payoff in general. Rich Ground also extends out to the temple.

4. Blend an orange-tinted brown powder eyeshadow into the crease over Rich Ground and blend up and out. Please use warm colors; browns with an orange undertone. I used a lot of Soft Brown Matte by MAC, (one of my all time fave colors!) the colors Saddle, Espresso and a hint of Orange to brighten it all up. (all by MAC) Blend the same eyeshadow combination into the bottom lashline, from the white eyeliner on down.

5. Next apply Waterproof Black cream eyeliner. I used Fluidline by MAC with an angle brush on the upper lashline in the lashes, and on the lower lashline, in between the white pencil and Rich Ground fluid line. I save the black for last so it won’t smear. This will give you a guidline for the lashes that are to follow. 

6. Then apply the top lashes first with black glue. Next apply the bottom lashes underneath the white eyeliner. The bottom lashes will NOT be touching the real lashes. 

7. Over Extended Eyebrows. I use an eyebrow pencil first, usualy in taupe, then I go over the pencil with an angled brush and an appropriate eyeshadow. This will look different for every eye and brow shape. Use your judgement with these pictures as a guide line. You can do the brows earlier on in the makeover to help give you a guidline.

Acid Dolls Fashion Show at The Fashion Unleashed Event.

The lights grew dim as the Who's Who of Hawaii took their seats. The booming melodies from the speakers seemed to be the only glimpse of commotion.... until you peak backstage that is. 

Here is your look at what goes on behind the curtain as the rest of the world waits for the show to begin! 

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Backstage at the Rosa Cha Show

Think the art of makeup is lavishly delicious? Try being backstage at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Bryant Park in New York.... it was like being at Baskin Robbins and being able to try all 31 flavors! There was so much to look at, so many people to chat with and so many gorgeous garments and products that caught my eye. As a Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist myself, this was my favorite part of attending Fashion Week. I was lucky enough to see so many fantastic shows such as Arise, Jill Stuart, Christian Siriano, Argentine, Venexiana and Tommy Hilfiger to name a few... but the very first show I went to was Rosa Cha, which perfectly melded my two worlds together; a tropical rush of swimwear with the chic city ambience and style. I didn't waste anytime after the show, and made a beeline for backstage... there I met the talented and oh so sweet, Fred Vellon, National Makeup Artist for M.A.C Cosmetics who gave me the low down on the inspiration for the look, the products and the love of makeup! I also met one of the

 'it' girls of the supermodel world, Chanel Iman whose sugary personality made her as charming as she is gorgeous! Enjoy the eye candy below!!

Behind the Scenes of a New Reality Show coming soon to Newport Beach...

Another fantastic Shoot working with Team Voorhees! This picture was taken at Michael Voorhees' amazing studio on 16th street in Newport Beach, CA. We shot in the studio and later, we took Dominque, the camera crew and myself into the RV and went down to Newport Beach on location! Great day!
